TRAVEL WRITING IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Do you dream of becoming a travel writer who gets paid to chronicle your journeys? Want to create a travel blog that will entertain friends and strangers alike? As the recent explosion of travel websites attests, it’s easy to write and publish a travel story or blog – the real challenge is to do it well.

Our Travel Writing In The Digital Age workshop, taught by the creators of our award-winning website WorldHum.com, will teach you how to turn your travel tales into compelling articles suitable for publication; how to create and write an evocative travel blog (and keep it going once you return from your trip); and even how to produce a dynamic audio slideshow that combines photography and voice-over audio storytelling. In short, you’ll get a serious primer on the art of travel writing in the digital age.

Access to Industry Leaders and Experts

Travel writing classes abound, but few thoroughly address how travel writing has changed and evolved with the internet. Experienced writers and editors who have worked for leading websites, magazines and newspapers will provide hands-on instruction and personal feedback on your work during the course. Our instructors have taught travel writing at universities and top conferences. More importantly, they’re at the leading edge of internet travel publishing, so you’ll get the basics, as well as insight into the latest digital travel writing trends.

Exciting Creative Outlet

Whether you’re sick of your job and investigating new ways to earn money or are simply looking for a new creative outlet, you’ll gain critical skills and a fresh perspective on 21st century travel writing opportunities. Perhaps friends and family have raved about your travel emails and encouraged you to pursue writing. Or maybe you’re a travel addict who simply wants to learn how to craft and publish professional stories. From how to structure a travel story to how to avoid travel-writing clichés, we’ll give you a solid foundation in travel writing and audio slideshow production and get your pursuit of digital travel writing off to a strong start.

Entrance Into a Global Community of Travel Writers

The web connects experienced travel writers, aspiring writers and editors around the globe as never before. We’ll cover the latest in social networking – including how to get the most out of Facebook and Twitter, and how to market yourself as a travel writer -- so you can make important connections with others in the field.

COURSE SCHEDULE

We start with the basics: how to structure and write a travel story, and how to avoid common beginner mistakes while transporting readers with descriptive, evocative prose. From there, we’ll teach you how to produce a dynamic audio slideshow combining photos and voice-over storytelling. Then it’s on to social networking, where you’ll learn how to connect with writers and editors. Finally, we cover the technical side of creating a travel blog, as well as the art of writing blog posts that engage readers (not just your friends and family). It all culminates in your final project: the creation of your own travel blog or dynamic audio slideshow.
