From 8 PM to 3 AM E/P on Friday, Oct. 30, the Ghost Adventures crew -- Zak, Nick and Aaron -- locked themselves into the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, WV, for the most ambitious paranormal investigation ever attempted. During this 7-hour live event, they examined the reported hauntings and ghostly activity at this legendary landmark.
Built during the Civil War, the asylum is the second-largest hand-cut stone building in the world. For decades its thick walls housed the insane, the neglected and the unwanted. Violence was a common occurrence and inmates were often subjected to brutal treatment. Shut down permanently in 1994, this massive edifice has remained vacant ever since.
Ghost Adventures had unprecedented access to the entire asylum -- from the seclusion cells, where the most violent patients were shackled, to the medical center, where primitive procedures and autopsies were performed.
To aid in their investigation, Ghost Adventures interviewed local witnesses, called on paranormal guest experts and utilized the latest in detection technology. Specialized teams were also available on-site to research and review evidence as it was collected.
This event was completely interactive. While watching the drama unfold on TV, viewers had complete access to the investigation online through the webcams, live video chat and text messaging.
