Peacocks scatter as you turn off Suid-Agter-Paarl Road and drive up to Fairview. Past the famous goat tower, which delights adults and children alike, a warm welcome awaits in the tasting room, where a large selection of wines and cheeses are to be sampled. When Charles Back's grandfather bought the farm in 1938, wine-making was already established - folklore tells of a doctor who prescribed teaspoons of the farm's wines to ill children. Charles Back was recognized as South African Wine Maker of the Year in 1996. Several of the estate's wines have also won acclaim at prestigious events.
