Garrison Church of the Ascension (The)

This church, the chapel of the Jamaica Defence Force, is full of history, and has a character all its own. This Jacobean church is built in the shape of a Latin cross. On seeing the structure one is forced to concede that it befits it purpose, as its bulky structure denotes strength. There are a number of stately palms around the building. On either side of the main entrance are two identical belfries. Inside the church itself, is a pipe organ, and a pulpit shaped like a wineglass. At the entrance to the sanctuary is a fragment of mosaic that was taken from a pavement of a synagogue near Jericho in the Holy Land. Services are held very Sunday.Please call to enquire as to service times.
