On the northern side of historic Spanish Town Square is a magnificent structure depicting Lord Rodney as a Roman Emperor. There are two cannons on either side of the statue reputed to have been taken from the French flagship with canons inscribed with the motto of King Louis XIV. In 1782, Admiral Lord Rodney saved Jamaica from a combined invasion of the the French and English at the Battle of Saints. It's doubly famous as it was done by the noted English sculptor, John Bacon at a cost of over thirty thousand pounds.
