With 200 seats and a relatively large stage, the Theater im Künstlerhaus - theater in the artist's house - is an ideal place for guest performances which need more space: music comedy, music cabaret, clowns' and acrobats' shows, pantomime, chansons and a-capella. Mostly German, but also actors from Britain, the Netherlands and other countries play here. The theater emerged at the beginning of the 80's, when non-established theater groups started staging guest performances. Now the Tanz- und Theaterbüro (Office for dance and theater) organises the shows on behalf of Hanover city's cultural department. Every year before Christmas, the Künstlerhaus belongs to the young audience: as an alternative to traditional Christmas fairy tale shows, independent theater groups show their productions for children and students.
