Venice

The Shri Ganesh, part of a worldwide chain of restaurants, serves delicious Indian dishes and is the only Indian restaurant in Venice. To get there, ask the way to Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, rather that looking for its official address. The atmosphere is reminiscent of India minus the veiled dancers and is frequented by locals and tourists alike. The area is very pleasant, even more so now that the Fondamenta has been restored to its former glory. The cuisine comes from northern India, thus curry and tandoori dishes. The tandoor is an oven where the dishes are cooked, hence their name. If you don't know a great deal about the cuisine you can trust one of the set menus, which are designed for large appetites, and are a good way of trying a little of everything. The bread is very good, even by Italian standards, where bread is very important. Everything else is of an equally high standard right down to the Indian beer.
