Hurricane season is in full swing, and thoughts of high winds and torrential downpours may have you re-considering your Labor Day weekend plans. We checked in with the meteorologists at weathertrends360 to see what they expect from this hurricane season, and to get some tips on low-risk beaches to visit this Labor Day.According to weathertrends360’s long-term forecasts, the central Gulf Coast from east Texas to the Florida panhandle will run the highest risk of a tropical system making landfall this year. Meanwhile, a moderate risk of a land-falling storm will encompass the entire southeastern coast, from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Charleston, SC.
In total, meteorologists expect there to be 15 named storms this year, down from last year’s 19. So how can you be fairly sure that one of those 15 storms won’t ruin your vacation? Pack up the car and head to one of these beaches, all of which are low-risk for a strong summer storm over Labor Day weekend:

South Padre Island, Texas
Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to visit Texas’s bustling South Padre Island. The spring breakers are back in school, and the sub-tropical climate makes for perfect beach temperatures. One of the most popular vacations spots on the Gulf, South Padre Island has plenty of resort hotels, shops and restaurants. But don’t expect luxurious accommodations – the island is a great place for travelers on a budget, looking to soak up a few of the summer sun’s last rays.2

Cape Cod, Massachusetts
East Coast vacationers should make the trek across the Sagamore (or Bourne!) Bridge this Labor Day weekend and hit the picturesque beaches of “The Cape.” In your downtime, go antiquing in Sandwich, visit the Chatham candy store, peruse the art galleries (or have a few oysters at the Beachcomber) in Wellfleet. The Cape also has plenty of activities for the kids – you wont have to drive far to find a mini-golf course.3

Galveston Island, Texas
Venture across the causeway (or hop on a ferry) to the 32-mile-long stretch of sand known as Galveston Island, one of the many attractions of the Gulf of Mexico. When you’ve had enough beach relaxation for one trip, make your way to Moody Gardens – the ultimate entertainment complex complete with a zoo, a 1.5-million-gallon aquarium pyramid, gardens and an IMAX theater. If you’re a waterpark fan, Galveston’s got one of those, too -- Schlitterbahn Waterpark.5
