Romantic Spa Treatments for Couples
A trip to the spa isn’t just for the ladies, especially with the wealth of romantic spa treatments that couples can enjoy together. Betsy Isroelit, the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the global spa and wellness resource SpaFinder, says that it’s becoming more common to see couples going to the spa together. Isroelit advises couples to keep it simple and incorporate fun into the experience when planning a couples’ spa excursion. “Set it up so you can spend time together after a massage with private Jacuzzis and showers, lunch at the spa—enjoy a mini-vacation at the day spa,” she suggests. “Spas are also teaching couples’ spa classes where you can experience a class on how to give each other a very soothing massage.”
And if the man in your life is feeling apprehensive about a spa vacation, choose a destination with plenty of other activities. You might add a spa treatment to a beach vacation, urban getaway or ski trip. “A top trend for 2011 is ‘spa in a New York minute.’ If you don’t have time for a whole spa vacation, you can either have mini-treatments or an extended visit to a day spa, and you don’t have to travel to do it,” says Isroelit.
Here are our suggestions for romantic spa treatments perfect for couples.
New York, New York
The swanky 650-square-foot VIP spa suite at Manhattan’s Mandarin Oriental is sure to put you in the mood for love with sweeping city views, a fireplace, elevated bath and dual massage beds. Couples can experience the Time Ritual together, a customized spa package with a holistic healing focus, and then relax in the steam and herbal bath and munch on a spa bento box.
If you’re feeling romantically challenged, head to the Royal Palms Resort and Spa where there is a dedicated Director of Romance on staff to ensure that your trip is downright dreamy. The Alvadora Spa pampers couples with a 90-minute romantic ritual including an aromatherapy body scrub followed by a rinse in the 8-foot outdoor waterfall shower before a sensuous soak by candlelight in an oversized tub. The ritual ends with a massage and glass of champagne to set the mood for love.
Anguilla’s CuisinArt Resort brings Greek-isle style to the Caribbean with whitewashed villas against the brilliant blue ocean. When you’re not wiling away the day on the sunny shores or indulging in the organic Mediterranean cuisine, you and your sweetheart can choose from multiple duo spa treatments. The Couples Rendezvous includes an Anguillan coconut pineapple scrub, rain shower, massage and floral soothing bath soak while the Couples Tropical Sea Escape incorporates Caribbean elements with a sea-salt Jacuzzi, seaweed wrap, rain shower and warm seashell massage followed by a refreshing drink of coconut water served in the shell.
West Hollywood, California
The Argyle Spa on West Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard is known for its celebrity clientele, A-list treatments and cushy private spa suites where you can relax before and after spa treatments. Couples can begin a romantic spa day in the private Hamman, a classic Turkish bath where you can exfoliate and detox in a low steam-heated room. Next enjoy an 80-minute Ambassador Hot Stone Massage in side-by-side treatment beds and then relax in the private spa suite while your butler delivers some bubbly and an array of snacks.
After a day on the slopes, plan for some après-ski romance at the swanky Bachelor Gulch Spa. Sign up for the Close-to-You Massage followed by the chance to soak away any skiing soreness in an oversized copper soaking tub designed for 2. After your soak, warm up in the eucalyptus steam room or lounge by the hot tub in the romantic stone grotto with your sweetheart—and a mimosa—within arm’s reach.
