The longest-running restaurant on Mozambique Island is O Paladar. Tony tries its specialty dish, matapa. The siri-siri plant is boiled and mixed with cashew, coconut milk, onion and spices to make this meal.

Mercado do Peixe
Mercado do Peixe is Maputo’s most vibrant fish market. Tony and fixer Milton venture through the market and pick out some clams and prawns.

Slave Memorial Garden
Located on Mozambique Island, Tony and Milton visit the Slave Memorial Garden, once used to trade slaves, gold and ivory. Thousands of men, women and children were housed here before being shipped to the Americas, West Indies and Caribbean.
The Grande Hotel
Tony visits a former luxury hotel, one of the best in Africa, now home to close to 3,000 squatters. In the mid-1960s, the Grande Hotel closed down.
