Mapusa


Mapusa Market -- Andrew begins his adventure in the market to discover the raw materials of Goan cuisine. He eats passion fruit, pickled mango, bora berry and chouricos, pig organs and pig fat, rubbed with hot spices and stuffed insided pig guts. Andrew also eats mackerel pickle, which is mackerel fish soaked in vinegar and spices for 4-5 weeks.

Location: Mapusa is located in North Goa, 13 km north of Panaji.



Panaji

Hospedaria Venite -- Andrew heads to a small hotel restaurant in search of one of the most famous & hottest curries in all of India. Andrew samples hilsa fish roe and vindaloo, a curry made from vegetables, cloves, cumin, and cinnamon, soaked in vinegar with tomatoes, and laced with red hot peppers.

Mum's Kitchen -- Andrew's next stop is a local restaurant dedicated to making foods the old fashioned Goanese way. Chicken xacuiti, a tasty dish Andrew samples, is chicken marinated in a masala of curry leaves, cumin, coconut and red chilies.  He also tastes Bombay duck, lizard fish fried and eaten whole.

Arambol Beach

The coastline in Goa has about two dozen beaches where you can swim, sunbathe, and of course, eat!  Andrew heads to an unspoiled piece of coastline where restaurants are often just a shack with a couple of propane burners and a coal grill.  At Arambol Beach, Andrew eats king prawns and pomfret fish.

Location: Arambol Beach is located a few kilometers from the city of Mapusa within the Pernem administrative region of northern Goa.



 

Calangute Beach

When you get to the beaches close to bigger cities, there are more varieties of food to try. At Calangute Beach they're cooking with Tandoori ovens instead of coal grills. Andrew samples fried mackerel, tandori baked bread, a chickpea sandwich, deep-fried chili fritters golgappa, wheat puffs filled with chickpeas.

Sahakari Spice Farm -- Andrew visits a spice farm in Goa to learn about the gastronomic and healing properties of Indian spices.

Saligao


Ayurvedic Natural Health Center --
