Muay Thai or Thai boxing is the martial art of Thailand. Its origin dates back to the 1300s. Muay Thai was developed as a form of close-combat that uses the entire body as a weapon.
* A boxer earns points toward a win when the fists, feet, knees and elbows are used as Muay Thai fighting weapons to attack his opponent accurately and unprotected according to the official rules.
* A bout consists of five rounds of three minutes each with two minute resting intervals.
* A boxer must weight at least 100 pounds.
* The minimum age for a professional boxer (registered by the Sports Authority of Thailand) is 18 years old (amateur boxers can fight at any age).
* The boxer must have at least three hours to rest after the weigh-in to be able to compete. Each boxer is on a strict diet and training program to prepare for each match. Many are weak from this diet and need to rest before the big match.
* What not to do: don't kick the protection, no sweeping the legs, no biting.
