Ghost Detector FAQ
PLEASE NOTE: The Ghost Detector is not available for all phones and on all wireless carriers. To see a list of handsets and carriers that support the Ghost Detector, refer to the "Ghost Detector Specs" box to the right.
Q: What Is the Ghost Detector? A: The Ghost Detector is a bonus application you can download to your mobile phone as part of your Most Haunted Mobile monthly subscription -- if your handset and your wireless carrier support it.
Q: How does the Ghost Detector work? A: Many paranormal investigators say that fluctuations in Electro Magnetic Fields (E.M.F.) might indicate paranormal activity. This detector measures variations in data transmission times to and from your mobile phone, and infers from them fluctuations in the local electromagnetic field.
Q: How do I request the Ghost Detector? A: First, you must subscribe to our Most Haunted Mobile site. Subscribers with phones and carriers that support the Ghost Detector will then be able to download the Detector at no additional charge. The Most Haunted Mobile site is available for a subscription fee of $0.99 a month, and the fee will be added to your wireless phone bill. Start the subscription process by sending a text message containing the keyword BOO to 99799.
Q: What will happen after I text keyword BOO to 99799? A: If your wireless carrier supports Most Haunted Mobile (at this time, Verizon and Alltel do not support it, and T-Mobile support is not guaranteed on all phones), we will send you a text message that asks you to confirm your order by replying with keyword Y. After you have replied, we will send another message that will tell you how to access our Most Haunted Mobile site. Load the site, then choose "Download the Ghost Detector" from the main menu. If your phone supports the Ghost Detector, you will see a link to download it on the following page. Click the link and download the application.
Q: I have texted keyword BOO to 99799, but I haven't received a message back A: Double check that you have correctly typed the number and keyword shown above in your text message. If your wireless carrier is T-Mobile, then we may not have received your message, and you will unfortunately be unable to download the Ghost Detector If your message was correctly addressed and contained the correct keyword, the delay in receiving our reply message may be due to high volume on our system, so please be patient.
Q: I have received your welcome message but don't know what to do next A: After you have replied, we will send another message that will tell you how to access our Most Haunted Mobile site. Load the site, then choose "Download the Ghost Detector" from the main menu on our mobile site. If your phone supports the Ghost Detector, you will see a link to download it. Click the link and download the application.
Q: I have opened the link but don't seem to get any further A: When you open the link to our Most Haunted Mobile site, your phone will try and connect to our server. If your phone isn't configured correctly, the connection will fail. You should call your wireless carrier/service provider and ask for help with the WAP and Internet settings on your phone.
Q: I've seen the installation progress bar appear, and the Ghost Detector seems to have been downloaded, but the application hasn't started working. I don't see it. Your phone may have saved the application in one of your local folders. Depending on your phone's make and model, you will find the Ghost Detector in one of the following locations:
- The phone's main menu
- Games
- Applications
- My Items
- My Own If you can't find the Ghost Detector in one of those menus, it's possible that download may have been interrupted by a lost connection or loss of signal. Try the download again by clicking the link to "Download the Ghost Detector."
Q: I subscribed to Most Haunted Mobile, but I don't see the Ghost Detector. How do I get it? A: The Ghost Detector is not available for all phones and on all wireless carriers. If you don't see the Ghost Detector available for download on our Most Haunted Mobile site, it is not available on your handset. To see a list of available handsets, refer to the "Ghost Detector Specs" box to the right.
Q: I can open the Ghost Detector, but it doesn't seem to do anything A: Once the application has been started, it will try and connect to the Internet via your data connection in order to take its readings. The phone will ask you if it can open that connection. The application will only work if you allow that connection when prompted to do so. If you allowed that connection and the Detector is still not moving, then you may have a problem with your Internet/data connection. You should contact your wireless carrier/service provider and explain that you need help with connecting a Java application to the Internet.
Q: How do I interpret the readings displayed on the Ghost Detector? A: The green needle indicates your current readings and the grey needle indicates the national baseline, so you can compare your reading at any time. You can change the frequency gain or amplification to tune the detector to the level of readings in its current environment. In working mode the device will emit a pulse roughly every 30 seconds until you switch it off. Each pulse uses about 50 bytes of data for which you will be charged by your operator at the standard rate for data.
Q: What settings can I control within the Ghost Detector? A: In the settings you can choose whether to monitor the incoming and outgoing pulses via the phone's internal speaker. You can also choose to have an alert if you are experiencing very high readings. If you have agreed to give the Travel Channel's partner Wiretown your name and ZIP code, this will be used to build a database of E.M.F. results or could be shown on Most Haunted Live on Travel Channel.
Q: My phone doesn't support the Ghost Detector, and I'd like to unsubscribe from Most Haunted Mobile. How do I do that? A: To unsubscribe from Most Haunted Mobile, you can simply send a text message to 99799 that contains the keywords END BOO. This will end your subscription and you will no longer be charged (depending on your wireless carriers billing cycle you still may see a charge in your next wireless bill.)
Q: I unsubscribed from Most Haunted Mobile, but I really want a refund since my handset doesn't support the Ghost Detector. A: If you want a refund, you must contact your wireless carrier directly. Carriers handle billing for Most Haunted Mobile and can remove the charge for the service from your wireless bill and prevent any further subscription renewal charges.
