Watch Ritual Masters Tuesday nights at 11 E/P
Smoking babies, eating feces and human flesh, handling snakes, animal sacrifices, throwing cow-
dung, walking on fire, polygamy, mummification, naked men festivals, cargo cults, whirling dervishes,
dining with the dead …
Every day in some corner of the planet, a ritual is unfolding. Some are bizarre, some dangerous, some
even shocking. Ritual Masters will bring home to television viewers the extraordinary range of rituals practiced by humans.
From Taoism in China to a voodoo mass in West Africa, Anglican vicar Pete Owen Jones takes viewers
on a definitive guide through faith on Earth. Over the course of a year, his spiritual quest takes him to 6
continents as he investigates 80 rituals.
The world’s 6 biggest religions, however, are only part of the story. Faith is expressed in a rich diversity of rituals -- in denominations, sects, cults, tribal faiths and new religious
movements.
Pete’s mission is to witness and take part in rites rarely filmed before; to take the religious pulse of the
planet and to understand the depth of humanity’s fascination with the divine. As an Anglican priest, Pete confronts cultures that challenge his values and prejudices, which surprise and even offend him, but, which also enlighten him.
