Meet Bret Michaels
Filed Under: Los AngelesBret Michaels is a self-proclaimed “drealist” -- a dreamer and a realist -- and the ultimate RV adventurer. As a multi-platinum global superstar, Michaels lives and breathes life on the road; his entire personal and professional life has been spent traveling in RVs, logging over 3 million miles, and he’s the only rocker to ever use a tour bus in Australia. Michaels has turned his passion for music into a multifaceted, multimillion enterprise brand that encompasses record-breaking touring sales, reality TV stardom, legendary songs, product endorsements and philanthropic work -- all supported and followed by 3 generations of loyal fans.
Michaels first rose to fame as the frontman of Poison, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands of the ’80s. Their massive success includes selling more than 30 million records worldwide and numerous hit singles. Michaels’ solo career is equally successful with multiple albums; his last, Custom Built, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock list. His new album, Bret Michaels: Jammin' With Friends, is set for release in June 2013 and features myriad legendary artists including Jimmy Buffett, Ace Frehley of Kiss and members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, to name a few.
Michaels’ talent, business acumen and natural candor have solidified the musician as “a cultural touchdown” and one of the most sought-after performers, interviews and speakers. He spends most of his time on the road, taking on live performances, speaking engagements, charitable concerts and private engagements every year.
When this multi-talented performer is not touring, he can be found both in front of and behind the camera as a director, producer and reality TV superstar. His first foray into reality TV brought the record-breaking “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels" franchise to VH1, and he subsequently teamed up with them again for the docu-series “Life As I Know It.” Michaels also starred in and won Donald Trump’s NBC hit series, Celebrity Apprentice.
Michaels’ latest television endeavor, Travel Channel’s new original series "Rock My RV with Bret Michaels," is slated to premiere in May 2013. Drawing from his own passion for RVs and travel experiences, Michaels, along with a team of custom designers and fabricators, revamps and redesigns dilapidated RVs into the most hooked-up mobile mansions on the road.
Additionally, Michaels runs his own multimillion dollar business enterprise, Michaels Entertainment Group. Whether it’s creating the Pets Rock™ Collection for the retail giant PetSmart®, partnering with Dean Guitars and designing his first-ever signature Bret Michaels series guitar, promoting healthy living on the GoodChime™ social media platform or launching his No. 1 selling Diet Trop-A-Rocka Tea with Snapple®, Michaels is always producing something new. Summer 2013 will bring the release of new items for the Pets Rock™ Collection, Michaels' signature Rock Bands and his Thorns and Roses Cologne.
Through his Life Rocks Foundation, Michaels has helped raise millions of dollars for diabetes awareness, research and charitable causes such as childhood cancer, wounded warriors, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PetSmart Charities® and more. Diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of s6, Michaels is passionately devoted to raising awareness of this debilitating disease. He’s partnered with both the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a spokesperson and sponsor, earning numerous awards from a variety of organizations, including the ADA’s first-ever Chairman’s Citation award.
