Best Baseball Stadiums to See a Game

Discover Baseball's Greatest Stadiums

 by Emma Fox

Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Baseball is not only a national pastime, it's an American love affair. Played at ballparks ranging from antiquated eyesores to multimillion-dollar marvels, there are few diversions as enjoyable as an afternoon of baseball.

Here are Travel Channel's 5 favorite stadiums across the country to get your baseball fix. (No guarantees on team performance.)

Citizens Bank Park
Home Team:
Philadelphia Phillies
The longest-standing same-named, same-city team in American professional sports, the Phillies moved to this fancy new ballpark in 2004.
Best seats: Diamond Club, sections A-G behind home plate.
The deal: "Alley Hour" -- concession specials are available each game for the first hour that Ashburn Alley (the ballpark's food concession area) is open.
Game-day grub: Tony Luke's famed pork Italiano sandwich, barbecue turkey legs, cheesesteaks, the multimeat-layered Schmitter®.
Best game-day promotion: Motrin IB Ladies Night with massages and drinks specials for the gals throughout the game.

AT&T Park
Home Team:
San Francisco Giants
There isn't a bad seat in this San Francisco Bay-front stadium, although steer clear of the left-field bleachers when San Diego or Los Angeles is in town -- the rivalry can get scrappy. Also, dress for the weather; temperatures drop when the sun sets.
Best seats: Field Club, sections 107-124, rows A-R.
The deal: Seats are pricey at this Bay Area stadium, but you can buy last-minute tickets at the stadium, or peek through the right field wall and watch the game for free.
Game-day grub: Giants dogs, Gilroy garlic fries, grilled crab salad sandwiches.
Best game-day promotion: Come for the game, stay for the annual on-field slumber party, and eat breakfast the following day between the bases.

Safeco Field
Home Team:
Seattle Mariners
Completed in 1999 for a whopping $517 million, Safeco Field boasts views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, downtown Seattle and the Space Needle, and even rocks a 3-paneled retractable roof.
Best seats: Lower box seats, section 119-141.
The deal: Frequent half-price family nights when all-view reserved tickets are just $10 per person.
Game-day grub: Ivar's fish and chips, bento boxes, vegetarian burritos, chocolate-covered strawberries.
Best game-day giveaway: Earth-friendly reusable Mariners grocery bags.

Minute Maid Park
Home Team:
Houston Astros
Houston's first retractable-roofed stadium features a natural-grass surface and a replica of a 19th-century locomotive that runs along nearly 800 feet of the low roof track on the west side of the ballpark. It's also the first major sports facility to offer closed captioning for the hearing-impaired.
Best seats: Diamond Club seats behind home plate; President George W. Bush has sat here on many occasions.
The deal: Children 14 and under are able to purchase $1 tickets for seats in the Outfield Deck section.
Game-day grub: Build-your-own burritos, loaded baked potatoes, fajita wraps, Thursday $35 All-You-Can-Eat game tickets.
Best game-day giveaway: $6 TGF Hair Salon haircuts, ZiegenBock Music Series post-game concerts. Also, anytime an Astros player hits the foul poles, the fans in attendance get a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A.

Coors Field
Home Team:
Colorado Rockies
Located on the cusp of downtown Denver in the popular lower downtown (LoDo) district, this retro ballpark built of brick and steel boasts vistas of the Rocky Mountains in the distance.
Best seats: Buy a seat in the upper deck beyond first base for the best views of the Rocky Mountains; seats in the 20th row are exactly one mile above sea level.
The deal: $4 Rockpile tickets -- located in the upper deck of center field, a limited number of Rockpile tickets are available for advance purchase for all home games. ($1 Rockpile tickets are available to guests 12 years of age or younger and 55 years or older)
Game-day grub: Gourmet pizzas, foot-long Rocky dogs and Rocky Mountain oysters.
Best game-day giveaway: 2007 League Champion collectible ring.
