Legendary Music Venues

Historic Rock and Roll Clubs

 By Philip Scher, Trisha Creekmore

rock clubs

Modern rock and roll found its beginnings in the steamy back rooms and raucous juke joints on the bad side of cities across America and later, Europe. From the mid-1950s until now, great rock legends have been born in the small clubs of the world. Long before they rattle the walls of stadiums, legendary superstars of pop music battle in the trenches of the bar and pub circuit.

Many of the most famous of these small venues survive today, still in operation and still churning out the chart toppers of tomorrow. And more so than any big arena, these places offer character and heart. There is simply no better way to see rock and roll than standing in a crowded room, shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers and feeling like a witness to the "next big thing."
