Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
North Slope, Alaska
Sometimes bear hugs are a necessity. With temperatures averaging around 20 below in the winter, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a good place for snuggling, particularly if you’re a polar bear. Expanding over 19 million acres of vast snowy tundra, this is the largest national refuge in the US, and the ideal place for mama polar bears to den up, give birth and spend time with their newborns before heading out for more ice fishing.
