Ethiopia, Africa

When 18th-century explorer James Bruce was seeking the source of the Nile, he stumbled upon the monumental Blue Nile Falls in Ethiopia and put his hands over his ears. It was loud, very, very loud. He claimed that the deafening sound of this thunderous mountain of water both stunned him and made him dizzy. Called Tis Abay, or “Smoking Water,” by locals, this mighty cataract still stuns today, particularly if you happen to fly over it in a boat, which is not recommended.
