Boulders Penguin Colony
Cape Point, South Africa
No, it’s not Antarctica. You’ll find these African penguins on Boulders Beach, a protected nesting area near Cape Point, South Africa. Back in 1982, 2 penguins settled on this sheltered beach on the country’s Cape Peninsula and since then the penguin colony has grown to nearly 3,000. Pay a small entrance fee and head out onto a wooden boardwalk, which leads to the breeding and nesting ground. Set your iPhone to video; you’ll want to capture the wild sound -- like a donkey baying -- that these little guys make, earning them the nickname, “jackass penguins.”
