Cannon Beach, Oregon

When Capt. William Clark, half of the adventurous Lewis and Clark duo, happened upon Cannon Beach in 1806, he "beheld the grandest and most pleasing prospects" his eyes had ever seen. You’ll likely agree as you stand at the rocky edge of the roaring Pacific. Spy peculiar shorebirds like pelicans and puffins at low tide. After sunset, wrap your sweater tightly around your shoulders to watch the bonfire glowing against the beach’s Haystack Rock, a 235-foot sea stack, pictured here.
