Chicago, Illinois
Since 1919, the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse has served as a maritime marvel for residents of the Windy City. Situated at the very edge of Navy Pier jutting into Lake Michigan, the ruddy-roofed beacon gives off an incandescent light that often draws the gazes of passersby. It was once operated by the Coast Guard, but after deeming it an excess (though a beautiful one at that), its ownership was transferred to the City of Chicago in 2009.
