Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Looking for a large venue to celebrate the end of the current Mayan calendar on Dec. 21? The Temple of the Warriors at Chichen Itza is one of the few Mayan structures able to handle a big crowd. The site has 4 platforms, flanked by 200 round and square columns carved with Toltec warriors, and S-shaped serpent columns on its top. It took 4 years to excavate the temple from jungle growth. Chichen Itza is a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site and was voted one of the controversial new 7 Wonders of the World in 2007.
