Set along the Rio Grande in far west Texas, the park contains the Chisos Mountains and the Chihuahuan Desert, and is home to 193 ecosystems that include 1,200 plant species, 450 types of birds and 3,600 varieties of insects. Hike 150 miles of trails, spanning mountain cliffs, mesas, hot springs and canyons. View 400 million-year-old rock fossils and 10,000-year-old archeological sites, which in more recent times were home to the Chisos, Apaches and Comanches tribes.
