Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

The walls surrounding the Old City of Dubrovnik are a reminder of its past as a medieval stronghold, designed to keep out marauding Turks. Today, these walls and accompanying fortresses welcome wandering tourists, captivated by the sight of the shimmering Adriatic Sea. An hour-long stroll along the 82-foot-high fort could actually inspire an exhilarating dive into the Adriatic along with resident Croatians, or in colder months maybe a few pretty snapshots will do.
