Minorca, Spain

This sleepy Spanish fishing town didn’t used to be so peaceful. The watchtower that presides over the town is what remains of a bayside castle, erected to defend against the famed Barbary Coast pirates. The calm waters that once played host to fearsome seafarers are now an ideal place to kayak, sail or windsurf. When you visit, you’ll see why centuries of people have pronounced Fornells the perfect place to tie up and stay for a while.
