Singapore has introduced some pretty cool new design ideas in recent years, and the 18 Supertrees in the newly opened Gardens by the Bay are the latest. These artificial structures stretch up to 164 feet high, and are covered in 163,000 plants of more than 200 varieties. Eleven are embedded with photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy, and dizzyingly high skywalks connect some. On top of one is even a bistro with cityscape views. The trees provide shade during the day and a lightshow at night. Cool, indeed.
