Ride Scotland’s Jacobite steam train for a taste of classic and modern history. Running on the West Highland line along the Road to the Isles to coastal Mallaig, the train was recently made famous when featured in the Harry Potter movies. A highlight of the 2-hour, 42-mile trip is crossing the 21 arches of the Glenfinnan Viaduct, completed in 1898. Glimpse the Jacobite monument memorializing a 1745 uprising to restore the Catholic king to the throne, and take in stunning views of verdant hills and Loch Shiel, one of Scotland’s largest freshwater lochs. The experience is magical.
