Houmas House

Darrow, Louisiana

If you were to close your eyes and picture the quintessential Southern plantation, you could do no better than to imagine this classic antebellum estate situated on the Mississippi River an hour outside of New Orleans. Built in the mid-1800s, the grand mansion with sturdy columns and generous verandas is the centerpiece of the property, while 38 acres of gardens filled with indigenous plant life and centuries-old oak trees act as a lush backdrop to its stately beauty.
