Dubrovnik, Croatia

As you stroll down Stradun, Old Town Dubrovnik’s main street, just beyond the Pile Gate, you can’t help but be drawn to a large red-tile roofed, rotund-shaped fountain. In the mid-1400s, this Croatian landmark was the place for visitors to cleanse themselves of the plague. Today, a sip of cool water flowing from one of the 16 carved faces surrounding the fountain offers a refreshing treat.
