Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The term “overwater bungalow” has practically become synonymous with Bora Bora, a connection that the French Polynesian island group’s resorts have no reason to contradict. At hotels such as Four Seasons, Le Méridien and the St. Regis, these stilted houses with thatched roofs are often decked out and romance-ready with top of the line linens, furnishings and amenities. Still, their linked appeal remains the same: Warm Pacific Ocean waters ripple below and, in the distance, the sun sets over enchanting barrier islands.
