Swaths of dramatic, sandstone walls are the trademark of the 112,500-acre Paria Canyon-Vermilion Wilderness managed by the Department of the Interior that does everything but tie the laces of your hiking books to convince you to explore its ridges, buttes, hollows, canyons and swales. The park is just 10 miles west of Page, AZ, but worlds away from the neighborhood you live in. You’ll want to stay longer than a day, but make sure you secure a permit first.
