Naples Province, Italy

The rugged yet colorful Procida, once inhabited by the ancient Greeks, is an ideal day trip from Naples. Located between the city and Istria off the southwest coast of Italy, the photographic island is home to fishing villages built into rocky cliffs, with rows of homes painted in pastel colors. Walk up steep roads to hilltop lookouts -- the ancient town of Terra Murata being the highest -- or relax on one of 5 beaches, great for viewing the sunset. If visiting during Holy Week, the island’s famous Good Friday procession has been a tradition since 1627.
