The Venetian sunset over the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore seems to hint at its religious significance and the great artistic treasures hidden beyond its glowing facade. A boat ride across the basin of San Marco to the classical Renaissance church reveals a pair of possibly the world’s most recognized paintings, “The Fall of Manna” and “The Last Supper,” by famed Italian painter Tintoretto, hanging on either side of its main altar.
