The Sea of Cortez has one of the highest concentrations of marine life in the world: Everything from gray whales and whale sharks to giant Humboldt squid and sea lions crowd this narrow sea bordered by the Baja Peninsula and mainland Mexico. Here, a group of adventurous women kayak in the calms waters near the island of Isla Espiritu, which is famed for its sea lion encounters, birdwatching and starkly beautiful desert vistas.
