San Antonio, Texas

Who could forget the Alamo? Certainly not anyone who knows the mighty tale of Davy Crockett and the other Texas rebels who held off the Mexican Army until this mission-turned-fortress finally fell to Mexico. With all of the approximately 200 Texans dead, the fall of the Alamo was one tragic turn in the Texas Revolution -- a war that would eventually end with Mexico’s defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto when revenge-hungry Texans yelled their famous battle cry, “Remember the Alamo!” Located in the heart of downtown San Antonio near the tourist-heavy River Walk, the Alamo still stands proudly, and is open for tours within its history-laden limestone walls.
