Quaint doesn’t even begin to describe this tiny former fishing port on Scotland’s Tobermory Harbor. Its pink, yellow and blue buildings feel like a cheerful greeting to vacationers who may be up for even more cheer in the form of scotch at the old Tobermory Distillery, which offers a peek into its single malt whiskey-making process. A place this charming has to have an intriguing past—according to local lore, a gold-filled ship from the Spanish Armada was sunk here.
