Vatnajokull National Park
It looks like someplace where the Hobbit would roam. Vatnajokull National Park, Europe's largest national park, extends across 12% of the land mass of the entire island nation. Within it, Iceland's tallest mountain, its most immense glacier and its most powerful waterfall all draw outdoor buffs to the rugged, unpopulated expanse. Here, dusty trails lead to enclaves of sparkling black sands and basalt outcroppings so sculpted by nature they resemble columns. Note: Authorities recommend only exploring the glacier when led by an able guide.
