Formerly known as Ayers Rock, these spectacular red sandstone formations rise over the central plains of Australia. Dubbed Uluru and Kata Tjuta, these rock domes are of religious importance to the area’s Ananju Aboriginal people; they’re also a primary attraction of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Be sure to watch out for animals on your visit -- the park is home to 22 different kinds of native mammals, including dingo, red kangaroo and even a hopping mouse!
