Nile River

Aswan, Egypt

The largest city in upper Egypt, and the third largest in the country, Aswan is located at the foot of the Nile Valley.  Deriving its name from the Egyptian word meaning "the market," Aswan was the major trade route between Egypt and the southern lands. Today that tradition continues as colorful markets filled with spices, jewelry and rich cloths overflow with tourists and locals alike. Guests can visit the numerous temples, the Nubian Museum, catch a cruise down the Nile, or take a felucca (traditional river sailing boat) ride upon Lake Nasser.
