Cliffs of Bonifacio

Corsica, France

It's hard to believe that the town of Bonifacio — which is perched atop milky-white cliffs that overlook the azure waters below — is part of France and not Italy. A short drive (and ferry ride) from Sardinia, sun-bleached houses and dimly lit chapels welcome those looking for a tranquil escape. Head to the island's southern beaches for splendid views of the cliffs, and tour the town's citadel, which features a 16th-century drawbridge and ancient aqueducts.
