Palazzo Vecchio

Florence, Italy

The Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) was built in the 14th century and still serves as the seat of the local government. Climb to the top of the bell tower — all 311 feet of it — for spectacular views of Florence. Afterward, saunter through the square in front of the building, Piazza Della Signoria, the civic center of the city. Watch fashionable Florentines making small talk and excited tourists taking in the glory of the surrounding history, including the Uffizi Gallery (one of the oldest and most famed art galleries in Europe).
