Though the north African country has been independent from French rule for more than 50 years, an underlying layer of French culture remains throughout Morocco. Speaking to that, French-owned Hotel Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa, located on the less cultivated Atlantic coast, brings Parisian chic to Essaouira, a still quaint fishing village. Near the white-washed walls of the city, the 175-room hotel overlooks the water. Mixing Moroccan characteristics with French contemporary design, the Sofitel has a Gary Player designed golf course, which keeps guests entertained, as do 3 pools, 4 restaurants and a trio of bars.
