Each spring, the Mojave Desert grasslands explode in a burst of magnificent colors as their poppies come into bloom. Generally lasting from mid-February to late May, with the colors and duration changing yearly, the season draws thousands of visitors to Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve to walk its 8 miles of trails and enjoy nature's splendid show. Unfortunately, a heat wave killed much of 2015's anticipated blooms, but all is not lost. The reserve's north slope is holding tight with beautiful goldfields, forget-me-nots, gold cups, cream cups, owl's clover and lupine among its scattered poppies.
