Molokini Crater

Maui, Hawaii

The only island marine sanctuary in Hawaii, Molokini is a small volcanic crater a few miles offshore of Maui. Formed 230,000 years ago, the crater is surrounded by clear waters that are famed for world-class snorkeling, as divers can observe 200 species of fish, turtles and even the occasional whale shark. Not just a favorite for divers, Molokini is also home to more than 1,000 pairs of wedge-tailed shearwaters and Bulwer’s petrels, birds that nest on its rocky cliffs
