John Ford’s Point

Monument Valley, Utah

The desolate, arid landscape of Monument Valley in Utah has long registered with rugged cowboys and lost souls as a sort of testament to the human endeavor. Perhaps the man responsible for introducing it to the outside world was John Ford, director of some of the best-known Westerns, including Stagecoach and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. John Ford’s Point in Monument Valley served as his legendary film settings, where a young John Wayne was a force to be reckoned with and outlaws would get you (if nature didn’t kill you first).
