5. Annual Port Aransas Sand Sculpture Contest

Each spring in Port Aransas, Texas, sand is the medium and spectacular sculptures the result at the annual Sand Sculpture Contest and Festival. During the 2000 competition, artists from as far away as China applied for the winning prize of $2,000 in the Master's Division. Those not quite with master status can compete in the Amateur Division for a $100 first-place prize. Youth division trophies and ribbons are also awarded. Observers can enjoy a day at the beach by admiring the beautiful sculptures and the live entertainment staged each year during the competition.
