1. Cocos Island
Location: Costa Rica
What's Cool: After a dive, climb an active volcano
-----------------------------------------
Cocos Island, or Isla del Coco, is one of the world's most famous diving locations. Located in Costa Rica 350 miles off the Pacific Coast, this is the primary region for shark activity. These dive sites are available only from live-aboard ships, which adds to the adventure of spending the day underwater and the night on deck. This is not the average diving experience with only rays, pilot whales and dolphins; the waters are also home to Galapagos sharks and schooling hammerheads (the area's main attraction). A special draw to Cocos Island is the plethora of activities on land - available for the "landsharks" of the crowd - including stunning national parks, active volcanoes and jungle tours.
