Motorcycle Madness: Get Set for a Long, Strange Trip
Harley-Davidson USA
If you don't know anything about motorcycles, Harley-Davidson should still be a familiar name to you. Harley-Davidson is not merely the longest operating motorcycle manufacturer in the United States, it has spawned a lifestyle that is world renowned. "H-D cool" can be had in products as diverse as the original leather motorcycle jacket to infant layettes emblazoned with the "Bar & Sheild" logo. Tourists who arrive by bus can peruse the Harley mystique at the Harley Davidson Café in New York City and fanatic riders of all types gather at rallies and rides all around the world.

Founded in 1903, the company commemorated its 100th anniversary in 2003 with a celebration that included the Open Road Tour, a traveling extravaganza with demos, concerts and fairs and the Ride Home, an organized ride to Milwaukee in August, where the company organized a massive birthday party.

Fans who'd like to visit Milwaukee any old time are invited to the H-D factory for tours, demos and a bit of history. Learn how William Harley and Arthur Davidson built their first internal combustion engine motorcycle in a 10- x 15-foot wooden shed in 1903. See classic engines, from the Knucklehead to the Twin Cam 88, and go deep into the factory that today is dedicated to producing the Sportster and Buell powertrains.
