Historic Rock and Roll Clubs
The Checkerboard Lounge
4. The Checkerboard Lounge

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Famous Bands to Grace the Stage: Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Willie Dixon
-----------------------------------------
Chicago is the home of the electric blues. And this legendary blues joint - which recently changed locations, was once owned by the venerable blues duo of Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. The Rolling Stones played with Muddy Waters here in the 1970s, an event immortalized in photographs. You get a full taste of blues culture at this slightly worn, much-loved club. The place comes to life at night and draws an eclectic crowd of students, tourists and locals. Be careful in this part of town, but do not miss the Checkerboard.
